Ras Al Khaimah airport (code RKT) first opened its doors in 1976 and is considered to be a great gateway between the Far east and Europe.  It offers a wide variety of destinations covering Europe, the Middle east, North & East Africa, Central Asia and the Sub-continent giving it a wide choice to locals and tourists alike.  The airport underwent a massive expansion plan in 2007 which gave RKT a noticeable upgrade to the passenger terminals and the public transport infrastructure, offering passengers a very modern look and feel.  RKT airport can accommodate all types of modern aircraft and is continually training its airport personnel to be able to offer the best service and care for passengers and cargo staff alike.

Ras Al Khaimah International airport not only services passenger flights, it also prides itself on its state-of-the-art cargo terminal that also has undergone a transformation programme.  The new facilities boast of the latest state of the art equipment giving RKT a competitive edge. The cargo area is made up of two large dedicated buildings with storage facilities, x-ray equipment coupled with a purpose-built secure area that is able to store hazardous cargo and valuables.  This specialized area was custom built to handle and cater for bulk cargo, live animals, fresh food as well as dangerous goods.  It goes to say the security element of this area is also robust and custom officials are always available around the clock, while specialist government departments will attend and supervise any handing of animals and the inspection of imported foods.
