Where do we start?  Well, first of all, remembering where you parked your car.  There are thousands of parking spaces at Dubai Mall, so it is advisable to print out your location from the multiple token dispensers on each floor.  Or alternatively, take a photo and save a tree.  But fear not, if you do forget where you parked, Dubai Mall has a service that will take you floor-to-floor with a patient driver to locate your car.

The enormity of the world’s largest shopping mall (by total land area) is difficult to comprehend with a staggering 13 million square feet consisting of 1,200 stores, 200 eateries and scores of leisure and entertainment venues.  The mighty mall opened in 2008 and now attracts 80 million visitors per year. 

Dubai Mall is located in Downtown Dubai.  It is adjacent to the world’s tallest building, The Burj Khalifa and sits on the promenade of the world’s largest choreographed fountain show.  Shows are free and can be seen daily every half-hour from 6pm.  If you are lucky, you can catch one of the two ‘practice’ shows during lunchtime.  No visit is complete without a trip to the top of The Burj Khalifa which gives panoramic views across the city.  You can step outside if you are brave enough and they have telescopes dotted around for close-ups.  Be savvy and book online before visiting as prices are cheaper.  The Dubai Mall is opposite Souk al Bahar, an Arabic-style souk with shops and restaurants (which are licensed to sell alcohol) overlooking the lake. 

.Other attractions in the mall include a 10-million litre Aquarium and Underwater Zoo which houses 33,000 aquatic animals comprising over 140 species.  There is also the Ultimate Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Theme Park to get your adrenalin fix if shopping doesn’t do it for you.  Or chill at the 22-screen cineplex Reel Cinemas.  And if you really just cannot carry on, head away from the crowds to the newly opened The Lounge which allows you to rent a sleeping-pod by the hour and dream of all the deals you have found.
