When you think of Dubai you think new, you think skyscraper and everything shiny and bright.  But if you ask anyone who has been in Dubai for a while, they will tell you that the real Dubai is in in Bur Dubai.  With its narrow streets and old buildings so close together that no sunlight will get between them, they will say that’s the real Dubai and there is so much to see.

Let’s start with the Dubai Museum as it is a must see during any vist.  It is housed within the walls of the famous Al Fahidi Fort that dates back to 1799 which was built originally as a defence post against any invasion.  This treasure trove lets you escape the heat and soak up the Creek’s heritage, with such insights to the UAE's infamous pearl diving and trading.  This dangerous occupation was one of Bur Dubai's secrets and sometimes deadly occupation for generating wealth for the local traders.

When we talk about traders, you have to visit the Old Souk.  As a tourist or traveller you may not have experienced the ways of buying scarfs or trinkets quite like this.  The merchants will expect you to haggle on the price of the gifts you are paying, as they have marked them up significantly in order to haggle with you and bring the price down. Don’t be surprised if they scream and shout saying you are insulting them;  this is all part for the game and if played correctly you will actually get a good price for your gifts.

If you still have some energy after your power class in negotiating, you can meander through the cobbled streets to the more tranquil area where you will find an art lovers paradise in the Majlis Gallery area.  Opened in 1989 the aim of this beautiful gallery was to promote works of art from all corners of the world.  A must visit and a very welcome end to your Bur Dubai journey.
